Ntuli sentenced to 36 years in prison

When he couldn’t find her, he decided to leave but heard her voice coming from a shack next to Msomi’s shack.

The Johannesburg Regional court sentenced Mzamo Bongani Ntuli to 36 years in prison for a double murder.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai said on February 22, 2014, Ntuli went to Siyabonga Msomi’s shack in the George Goch Informal Settlement, looking for his girlfriend.

When he couldn’t find her, he decided to leave but heard her voice coming from a shack next to Msomi’s shack.

He knocked on the door but no one opened.

He started to kick the door in and Philani Zungu opened the door.

A fight broke out between Ntuli and Zungu.

W/O Munyai said the girlfriend exited the shack and ran away.

Msomi intervened and broke up the fight. Ntuli left the scene but promised to return and kill the ‘dog’.

W/O Munyai said Ntuli returned a few minutes later later carrying a firearm. He then opened fire.

Msomi died at the scene while Zungu tried to escape but collapsed. He died a few metres away.

W/O Munyai said Ntuli fled the scene. He went to Msinga in Kwazulu-Natal where he was arrested on April 4, 2014.

The firearm was never recovered.

He was sentenced on February 2 this year and received 18 years for each murder. The sentences will run concurrently.
