More than 1 000 potholes filled

Clr Gungubele said the work was done by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality's (EMM) partner, Bidvest, as part of its social corporate investment programme.

More than 1 000 potholes across Ekurhuleni have been repaired in the past month.

This is according to the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele.

Clr Gungubele was adressing council in its second ordinary sitting on February 26.

Clr Gungubele said the work was done by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) partner, Bidvest, as part of its social corporate investment programme.

Bidvest assured council that the EMM is not paying a cent for the work done.

Clr Gungubele said potholes were repaired in Kempton Park, Bakerton, Welgedacht, KwaThema, Actonville, Wattville, Meadowdale, Tembisa, Thokoza, Boksburg, Alberton and Germiston.

“Residents using Rietfontein Road, will attest to the work done, as two of the most dangerous potholes on the road, next to East Rand Mall, have been filled. This has resulted in the seamless flow of traffic,” said Clr Gungubele.

The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Roads and Transport, Thumbu Mahlangu, said the EMM’s road department will continue on its mandate to maintain roads.

“This does not mean that the EMM is neglecting its responsibilities. What Bidvest is doing is just to patch potholes, nothing more. Building and the general maintenance of roads is the EMM’s responsibility,” said MMC Mahlangu.
