Several successes for Cleveland SAPS officers

On the same day, another group of police officers were conducting stop-and-search operations.

Cleveland SAPS police officers arrested two men during a patrol on Thursday, February 12.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the officers were patrolling in Dewetshof when they noticed a suspicious man inside an electricity substation.

“He was found in possession of bolt cutters. He arrested for being in possession of house breaking implements. The officers also suspect he was going to steal copper,” she said.

On the same day, another group of police officers were conducting stop-and-search operations.

The officers stopped a man and discovered drugs in his possession.

“Three packets of cocaine were found in his pockets. He was arrested on the spot,” said Const Mashakane.

According to Const Mashakane, police officers are now searching for the suspect’s supplier.

In a separate incident, the Cleveland SAPS arrested a 19-year-old man after he tried to rob his neighbour on Saturday, February 14, shortly after 11pm.

“The neighbour was entering his property when he was approached by two men wearing balaclavas. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at him while the other searched him. He wrestled with the suspect and managed to remove the balaclava. The men then fled the scene,” said Const Mashakane.

The victim managed to identify one of the men who tried to rob him and opened a case at the SAPS.

“One of the suspects returned at a later stage to apologise to the victim and he called the SAPS. Police officers reacted quickly and managed to arrest the teenager,” said Const Mashakane.
