Meanwhile, in a separate incident at the Van Der Linde and Van Buuren Road intersection, a man stole a wallet from a car stopped at a red traffic light.

Four armed men robbed a motorist and his passenger while waiting at a traffic light on Nicol Road in Bedfordview on Saturday, January 30, shortly before 1pm.

The Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the motorist stopped at the intersection red traffic light and a BMW 1 Series stopped next to his car.

“All four men, armed with firearms, exited the car and surrounded the victim’s car. The suspects pointed firearms at the victim’s. One of the suspects smashed in a window with a hammer. The suspects demanded money and searched the car,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

He added that the men took five cellular phones, and various other belongings, before fleeing the scene.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident at the Van Der Linde and Van Buuren Road intersection, a man stole a wallet from a car stopped at a red traffic light.

“The driver had his windows open when he stopped at the intersection. A man approached him. Without saying a word, the suspect grabbed the wallet which was lying on the seat. He then fled the scene,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

Wednesday, February 4, saw a burglary take place at a home in Alfreida Street in Harmelia. Television sets, a laptop, a tablet device and jewellery were among the items stolen.

Sgt Nhlabathi said the home owner received a call from his neighbours asking him why his gate was open.

“When he arrived, the victim found his gate had been forced wide open,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.
