EMM denies 3 000 vacancies claim

The EMM's spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, said the EMM does not have more than 3 000 vacancies, as the process of filling some of the vacant positions is underway.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has dismissed the DA’s allegations that there are 3 000 vacancies yet to be filled, which therefore translated to slow service delivery.

The EMM’s spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, said the EMM does not have more than 3 000 vacancies, as the process of filling some of the vacant positions is underway.

“The positions that are currently filled are those that are in the current structure as well as those in the proposed organisational structure,” he said.

Mr Gadebe said these were not major positions and therefore service delivery was not affected.

“Most of the vacancies are in the categories of clerks, typists and messengers,” he said.
