Unkempt park angers residents

A neglected and dirty Da Gama Park in Cyrildene has some residents calling the area a complete nightmare.

Mrs Colleen Majmin said she has been complaining about the state of the park for a long time and makes numerous calls to the City Parks call centre, but nothing has been done about it.

“I was given reference numbers and people to call, but when I call the number I was given, the person does not answer the phone,” said Mrs Majmin.

The EXPRESS visited the park to see what was happening.

We found that the park does not appear to be maintained. We could not even walk in the park because of the grass being too long.

“You cannot even walk in the park because you don’t know what is in there; the grass is too long. When you come home at night, you don’t know if there is someone hiding in the grass,” said Mrs Majmin.

The ward councillor, Clr Mike Spadino, said he has spoken to the council regarding the maintenance of the park but nothing has been done so far.

“I will be meeting with officials to discuss the matter and I will give feedback afterwards,” he said.

The City Parks spokesperson, Ms Noeleen Mattera, was contacted for comment.

Comment was requested by 9am on Thursday, but by 1pm no comment was received.

Neglected and dirty, Da Gama Park’s current condition is a concern to residents.
