Dog lovers get together

Its chairperson, Mr Deon Schoeman, said the show was used by breeders to get their young dogs accustomed to bigger shows.

Scores of dog lovers and breeders flocked to the Goldfields Kennel Club for a show on Sunday last week.

The show was organised by the Roodepoort District Kennel Club.

Its chairperson, Mr Deon Schoeman, said the show was used by breeders to get their young dogs accustomed to bigger shows.

“Most of these are novice dogs. The show helps them get used to other dogs and the rules of competitions. The breeders also use this to prepare for bigger shows,” he said.

He added that shows like this are used by dog lovers to learn more about the breeds they like.

Mr Schoeman urged dog lovers to buy their pets from the reputable and registered breeders.

“Buy your dog from a reputable and registered dog breeder because they know better. They will be able to answer all the questions about your pet. Even if there is a genetic problem, he will be able respond to you better than other people who might sell you dogs,” he said.

Mr Schoeman said that anyone with questions about dogs can contact him via email on dschoeman@citypower.co.za
