Police recover stolen motorbike

Five men were arrested and several allegedly stolen items recovered after a security guard’s motorbike was stolen on Highland Road in Kensington.

The incident took place on Monday, January 12, shortly before 5pm in the evening.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said a security guard parked his motorbike on the side of the road and began patrolling the surrounding area on foot.

“While he was patrolling, he noticed a car without registration plates stopping next his motorbike. One of the passengers exited the car and drove off on his motorbike,” she said.

Const Mashakane said the guard called the police and described the car.

“Later that day, police officers were patrolling when they noticed a car that fit the description. The car was spotted in Malven East and there were three men in the car. Following questioning, the men took the police to a property on Jules Street. The security guard’s motorbike was found and a fourth man was arrested,” said Const Mashakane.

All the men were arrested and taken into custody.

Const Mashakane said that as part of the investigation, the officers went back to the property in Jules Street and more allegedly stolen items were discovered.

“This included two electrical gate motors, one plasma cutter and a bicycle,” she said.

Const Mashakane urged people who have had items stolen to visit the Cleveland SAPS’ SAP 13 store and identify the items.
