54 percent of the matriculants passed with entry into a Bachelors degree.
This is up from a 92 percent pass rate from the previous year, which also only saw 48 percent of the pupils passing with exemption.
Member of Provincial Legislature (MPL) for the DA, Clr Jack Bloom, said he was pleased to discover this when he visited the school recently and spoke with the principal, Mr Rajan Dayanand.
“I have a particular interest in Athlone as I matriculated there in 1977,” said Clr Bloom.
“The improved pass rate is notable, as the overall pass rate in Gauteng declined to 84.7 percent, from 87 percent in 2013,” he added.
There are currently 643 pupils at the school, most of whom travel some distance to be there.
“If anyone is able to assist with the repair of toilets, the school would be very appreciative,” said Clr Bloom.
