Mysterious trailer loaded with biscuits was hijacked then abandoned

Eventually, teams were able to determine that the trailer belonged to a man in Chatsworth but attempts to reach him proved fruitless.

A mysterious trailer parked at Eden Mall has left authorities scratching their heads for nearly a month.

According to the manager for the Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID), Mrs Linda McKenzie, the trailer was dropped off on December 19.

The large, six meter container on the trailer seemed to have no identification.

“We called in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) for assistance and the trailer was opened. Inside we found it was stacked floor to ceiling with boxes of biscuits,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She added that there had been no reports of a stolen white trailer on the day.

The trailer was again locked and investigations began to trace the owner.

“From then on, every night we would get calls that people were entering and exiting the trailer taking the biscuits,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Eventually, teams were able to determine that the trailer belonged to a man in Chatsworth but attempts to reach him proved fruitless.

Yesterday morning, a member of a specialised team arrived to inspect the trailer.

“Within seconds, the man was able to identify the trailer and called it in. According to the control room, the trailer was hijacked along with a horse in Jetpark on December 19, the same day the trailer appeared in Edenvale. The horse was recovered in Primrose,” said Mrs McKenzie.

It is believed the truck was hijacked and the trailer dropped off in Edenvale before the horse was disposed of.

“Only 65 boxes of biscuits were saved. Many vagrants in Edenvale enjoyed a Christmas with cookies,” said Mrs McKenzie.
