The victim was walking along Charton Terrance and Siemert Street in New Doornfontein on Wednesday, December 17, when she was approached by the suspect.
The suspect pulled out a knife, threatened the victim and grabbed her handbag. The suspect then fled the scene.
According to Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, from the Jeppe SAPS, residents saw what had happened and gave chase.
The residents managed to apprehend the suspect.
The SAPS was called and the suspect arrested.
The suspect will appear in court soon and police investigations are continuing.
