Pensioner robbed

It all happened so fast. The guy sitting next to me said we must get in the police car. When we entered the car, they drove off.

A Cleveland man was allegedly greased and robbed at Monmouth and Jules streets by three men, shortly after withdrawing his and wife’s pension at about 11am on December 1.

Mr Wesley September said he withdrew the money from an ATM and proceeded to Spar to buy a few items. After that, he went to sit on a bench outside one of the banks along Jules Street.

As he was sitting there, a man walked past and smeared some grease on his shirt.

Another man approached him and told him the person who put grease on his shirt wanted to steal his money.

While they were busy talking, a white Toyota Corolla stopped in front of him. Two occupants, who claimed they were from the police, forced the victim into the car.

“It all happened so fast. The guy sitting next to me said we must get in the police car. When we entered the car, they drove off. The guy sitting in the front passenger seat took out a brown envelope and showed me a lot of money, which he claimed was his. He put the money in a brown envelope and told me to put my money in too. When I refused, he started searching my pockets and took out all the money,” said Mr September.

After taking his money, the suspects stopped the car, threw him out, together with his empty wallet and the plastic bag he had with him.

Mr September believes he is not the only victim of these three men and wants other people who have been robbed by these people to come forward so they can help the police put together an identity kit.

The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, confirmed that a case for theft was opened. She warned residents to be vigilant as the police have opened several similar cases.
