A 23-year-old man was walking along End Street in Doornfontein on November 29, at about 8.30pm, when he was allegedly approached by five men and two women.
One of the men was armed with a sharp object. The suspect grabbed the victim and searched him.
The suspects took a wallet with about R1 300 in it, bank cards and his cellular phone.
According to Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, the victim saw a police car passing and stopped the officers.
The officers managed to arrest two of the suspects while the rest escaped.
The arrested suspects are aged 20 and 23 and were taken to the Jeppe SAPS, where they were charged and detained.
