Police bust two suspects with drugs

A truck from Kenya, carrying clothes, was stopped at the Grobblersburg border post on November 30.

On Monday, December 1 at about 7am, the SAPS arrested a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman for possession of drugs in Jules Street in Belgravia.

The Kenyan man and Somali woman were arrested when they picked up a box from a courier truck which was delivering goods from African countries.

A truck from Kenya, carrying clothes, was stopped at the Grobblersburg border post on November 30.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi said during the search, police found over 12 600 Rohypnol tablets hidden in a box containing clothes.

The drug is commonly known as the ‘Date Rape’ drug because it is commonly used to drug rape victims.

The truck driver and truck owner, who was in Johannesburg, denied any knowledge of the drugs.

Four members from Limpopo Crime Intelligence followed the truck to Johannesburg and arranged for backup from the Jeppe SAPS detectives.

The truck arrived in Jules street at about 7am and the SAPS members, dressed in civvies, waited as if they were collecting clothing from the truck.

Warrant Officer Munyayi said they stood there waiting for a person to pick up the box carrying the drugs.

The man and the woman then picked up the box and claimed it was theirs. That is when the police pounced.

The suspects were arrested and taken to the Jeppe SAPS, where a case of possession of drugs was opened.

They will appear in court soon while investigations are continuing.
