Gauteng Middle Weight Champion, Dowayne Combrink, beat Giovanni Bushby to win a middle weight bout on Wednesday last week.

The bout was part of the Christamas Cracker Box and Dine event, staged at the African Ring and Golden Gloves at Emperors Palace.

Dowayne won the closely-contested fight with a unanimous decision. Judges scored the fight 58-57, 57-55 and 55-57.

The hard-hitting Dowayne took a serious beating from the man from East London.

His trainer, veteran boxer Herold Volbrecht, was always there to give his fighter courage and keep him calm.

Dowayne went to the fight with 10 wins, seven from a technical knock out (TKO), and one loss.

Giovanni, on the other hand, had six wins, three from TKO, three losses and one draw.

In another bout on the night, Patrick Mukula from the Democratic Republic of Congo, brought disappointment to many when he beat Page Tshesane, a local who had lots of support from fans in the audience.

Patrick won the fight with a majority decision. Judges scored the fight 36-45, 39-45 and 38-38.

In the same evening, Dee Jay Kriel beat Donald Khetsane to win a Junior Fly Weight bout.

In other bouts, Leron Myles beat Brandon Sweenan to win a Light Heavy Weight bout.

Alfonzo Tissen took the Middle Weight bout from Tebogo Malose.

Percy Mkhize beat Jimmy Hamela with a TKO to win a Junior Fly bout.

In the opening bout, Silase Sithole fell in all four rounds of the fights against Zenzele Ntanzi.

All three judges scored the fight 40-32 to Zenzele.
