Police nab would-be thief

According to the Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the man was found sitting inside a woman's car at a local gym in Bedfordview.

A 36-year-old man appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court facing theft and attempted theft out of motor vehicle charges.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the man was found sitting inside a woman’s car at a local gym in Bedfordview.

“When the victim asked what he was doing in her car, he jumped out and apologised, saying he’d mistaken the car for his own,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

He added that the suspect then started running away, prompting the woman to cry for help. Staff members responded and caught the suspect.

Sgt Nhlabathi told the NEWS the victim’s windows and doors were locked.

The case was postponed to an unconfirmed date and the suspect remains in police custody.
