Mayor sends message of support to matric pupils

Clr Gungubele said matriculants must ensure they complete the year’s hard work on a high note.

The mayor of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Clr Mondli Gungubele, has wished matriculants well and encouraged them to work hard.

This comes with the final exams starting in November.

Clr Gungubele said matriculants must ensure they complete the year’s hard work on a high note.

“You have done well to get where you are in life right now and I am sure you know these exams mark another milestone in your efforts to carving out the future you wish for yourself, as an adult South African.” he said.

Clr Gungubele urged parents and teachers to support matriculants during this time.

“We must continue to help our children realise and comprehend the fact that education is the key to future prospects in South Africa. The more educated we are, the brighter the future of the country going forward. Through education, we shall triumph against the triple challenges facing our country; unemployment, poverty and inequality,” said Clr Gungubele.

Despite delivery protests that may have hindered schooling programmes in some areas, Clr Gungubele is confident the class of 2014 has the potential to surpass its predecessors.

“There may have been some minor interruptions as a result of service delivery protests in some areas, but in the main, I know we as government with the help of community leaders in such areas moved swiftly to ensure that there were minimal effects to education, especially the matriculants,” said Clr Gungubele.
