A rising dance star

Kyhara came first in the 14 to 15 Rising Star Solo and third in the Slow Dance Rising Star section. Over 30 dancers competed in this category.

Kyhara Van Der Bank, a Linksfield resident and grade 8 pupil at Assumption Convent School for Girls, recently competed in the Supreme Dancer of the Year competition.

The competition, which was held at the Alberton Civic Centre, drew over 600 entries with dancers coming from all over the country to take part.

Kyhara came first in the 14 to 15 Rising Star Solo and third in the Slow Dance Rising Star section. Over 30 dancers competed in this category.

Kyhara also competed in the Gauteng Champs in October and came first in her Rising Star solo. This competition was held at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre.

Kyhara has been dancing since the age of four at a dance studio in Bedfordview. She later wanted to compete and that is when she was referred to Diana Moore Dance World in Lampton and is trained by Ashleigh Moore. Ashleigh puts in many hours with each dancer to ensure they reach their their full potential.

Kyhara commits to eight hours of training per week, which includes her ballet and contemp classes.

Kyhara is also in full preparation for the South African championships, which will be held on November 29.

She also took part at the South African Fashion Week, which was held this past Sunday, where she showcased clothing from Converse, Nike and Jordan under the name Diana Moore Dance World.
