Local resident takes part in OR Tambo Memorial

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) paid tribute to the memory of the longest serving president of the ANC, Oliver Reginald Tambo, on his birthday.

Ms Jordy Seaton Rogers, a resident from Kensington, was one of the people who played a part in this year’s OR Tambo Memorial.

Ms Rogers was entrusted with making portraits and mosaic pots for the event.

The memorial took place on Monday, October 28, at the Tamboville cemetery in Wattville, Ekurhuleni.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) paid tribute to the memory of the longest serving president of the ANC, Oliver Reginald Tambo, on his birthday.

The event was attended by Mr David Makhura and the executive mayor of the EMM, Clr Mondli Gungubele, the Tambo family and other dignitaries.

Ms Isabella Pingle, of The Kensington Heritage Trust, said she was blown away when she saw the 20 mosaic pots created by Ms Rogers.

She said it was a phenomenal experience to be involved in such a project. She added that the project took about 14 months to complete because they did not want to rush it.

Through the project, six unskilled people were employed and gained valuable skills, which they are now using to better their lives.

“I felt privileged to work on this project; I learnt a lot about the Tambo’s and their humble beginnings. It was lovely to see the story unfold,” said Ms Rogers.
