A vagrant staying next to the Malvern Swimming Pool denies stealing for survival.

This follows complaints from the swimming pool’s renovation community liaison officer, Mr Jefry Ncanana.

He said the construction company’s employees were complaining, saying that someone is stealing their belongings.

One of the vagrants, Mr Sipho Mhlongo from Umsinga in KwaZulu-Natal, said he and his three friends do piece-jobs for survival.

“I do garden work and clean some properties in the suburbs, especially in Kensington. My friend has a car to pick us up every morning,” he said.

He said he used to stay at the Denver Hostel but had to leave because they were too many people in one room.

“I came here looking for my friend and I told him about my frustrations. He invited me to stay with them. My friend has found a job now and has a room. I hope to move as soon as I find a better job,” he said.
