SAPS nab drunk drivers and suspected car thief

When officers searched the man’s vehicle, implements used in motor vehicle theft were discovered

21 motorists were arrested in Edenvale for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday, October 17.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said officers from the Edenvale SAPS, assisted by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department, held several roadblocks on the night.

“At one of the roadblocks a male driver sped through the police barricade. Fortunately, officers were able to catch up to him,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“When officers searched the man’s vehicle, implements used in motor vehicle theft were discovered,” he added.

The man was also found in possession of drugs.

Further investigations revealed that the man had previously been convicted of motor vehicle theft.

The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was denied bail.
