National police commissioner, Riah Phiyega briefed the media on the at the South African Police Service Gauteng head office in Parktown on 27 October.
The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana captain was declared dead on arrival at hospital on the evening of 26 October, after he was shot by intruders during a house robbery.
Phiyega said Meyiwa was in Vosloorus visiting a friend when he was shot on his upper body after two male suspects entered the house. One other suspect remained outside the house.
A cellphone was taken from the house. “Investigators are at the crime scene as we speak collecting evidence,” said Phiyega.
“There is a man hunt for three male suspects.” Two of the suspects appeared to be in their late twenties and the third suspect appeared to be in his early thirties. One suspect it tall, dark and slender and another is well-built, short and dark.
