Eight things you should do to light up the world this Diwali

While many will be going all out displaying fancy lights during today’s Diwali celebrations, take some time to bring light into someone’s life during the celebrations this year.

Help your domestic while she is cleaning your house

Instead of being on the case of your help for doing an average job, try and assist her. Don’t give deadlines to her, instead offer a helping hand.

Be a Santa Claus this Diwali

Go through your stuff, you may have things you never used, or are bored with, basically things just there. Instead of piling it up for one more year, donate all that extra stuff in your house to someone who actually needs it.

Remember the working class

There is always someone who is working during Diwali, the security guard at your workplace or local shopping centre, the pizza delivery boy or that cop who is ensuring your safety on this big festival.

If you come across them, make them feel special. Give them a greeting card or a chocolate bar. And smile.

Be a volunteer

Diwali might seem incomplete without fire crackers, but every year there are hundreds of victims who suffer cracker burns. Volunteer with the police or hospitals rescuing burn victims.

Community fireworks session

Organise a fireworks session for underprivileged children. A lot of children can’t afford fire crackers so this can be a brilliant way of spreading joy.

Distribute sweets

Everyone from your family members to your office and even your clients give you sweets during Diwali. Pack those excess sweets, take out your car and give them to the needy.

Use eco-friendly fireworks

Do something for the environment. Pollution reaches a new level on Diwali, which is harmful for us and the animals around. Using eco-friendly fireworks will make your Diwali safer.

Spend time at an old age home or orphanage

Offer to decorate an old age home or an orphanage- making a rangoli, lighting diya’s and floating candles can help alleviate the mood of people living there.
