Alert cashier discovers fraudulent ID book

The suspect was arrested and appeared at the Edenvale Magistrate's Court.

A 25-year old man is facing a charge of fraud after trying to open a bank account account with a fraudulent ID book.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said a cashier asked the man to produce an ID book in order for her to activate his account.

“She realised the details he provided did not correspond to the ones displayed in the ID book. She then called her supervisor who put it under a UV light. They found that the document was fraudulent,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

The suspect was arrested and appeared at the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court.

The case was remanded to an unconfirmed date, pending further police investigations.

The suspect remains in custody.
