New speaker for Writers 2000

He joined the staff of the Wits Business School (WBS) in 1981 and here his teaching, research, writing and consulting were mainly to do with the management of information.

There has been a change of the speaker for the Writers 2000 meeting taking place on Saturday, October 4.

Members can now look forward to listening to fellow member, immediate past chairman and author, Mr Neil Duffy.

Mr Duffy initially graduated with a Bcom from the University of Cape Town. He then worked for a number of business organisations before moving to Unisa’s School of Business Leadership, where he spent 10 years.

He joined the staff of the Wits Business School (WBS) in 1981 and here his teaching, research, writing and consulting were mainly to do with the management of information.

While there, he completed his masters and doctoral degrees, part-time, and retired from WBS as an Emeritus Professor.

Apart from the publications academics produce in the course of their work, Mr Duffy co-authored three books in the field of Information Management.

When he stepped down as the Writers 2000 chairman in 2012, Mr Duffy was heard to say, “Now I can focus on the writing I want to do.”

“Currently, I would classify myself as a writer of cyber-crime fiction. My first book, Dire Consequences, was self-published through Amazon in 2013. I am making final adjustments to the manuscript of the sequel. Dire Consequences is available as an e-book and in paperback. I also function as an external examiner of MBA research reports for two Johannesburg-based business schools,” he said.

At the Writers 2000 prize giving held in July, Mr Duffy received the Carpenter Cup which is awarded for significant external achievement by a member.

The meeting will take place at the Inyoni Creek Clubhouse, in the Rand Aid Complex, at the corner of Wordsworth and Modderfontein Roads in Lyndhurst. The meeting will start at 2pm on Saturday, October 4. It is open to members and anyone interested in writing.

There is a R10 door fee. Contact the chairman, Mr Jake van der Wilden, for more information about this meeting or phone 082 223 9353/ 011 616 0305. Alternatively, email anjo@internext.co.za for more information.
