EMPD to bring deaf community into mainstream employment

The EMPD's Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said the two parties entered into a contractual agreement to train and employ the deaf on a yearly basis.

In a bid to maximise job opportunities for the deaf community, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) together with its partner Altech Radio Holdings, will create vacancies aimed at bringing the deaf community into mainstream employment.

The EMPD’s Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said the two parties entered into a contractual agreement to train and employ the deaf on a yearly basis.

Chief Supt Kgasago said they have so far employed a number of deaf people in various jobs, including data capturing, court roll filing and general administration.

“We are going be training deaf employees in many disciplines, because we believe they are equally capable of working the same way as hearing employees.” he said.

Altech Radio Holdings is contracted to the EMPD to provide administration of prosecution processes.
