Mr Robins (85) wins Around the World running trophy

Mr Robins has run and completed 12 Comrades Marathons in less than eleven hours. He has also completed 11 Two Oceans Marathons in less than six hours.

Elma Park resident, Mr Des Robins, has been awarded the Around the World Trophy 2014 for running.

The 85-year-old has been running for 37 years. He started running when he was 7 years old.

He has completed 139, 42,2 kilometre races. When it comes to the 50 kilometre races, he has completed nearly 80.

Mr Robins has run and completed 12 Comrades Marathons in less than eleven hours. He has also completed 11 Two Oceans Marathons in less than six hours.

“It all started when I met five chaps and began to run. I belong to the Fit 2000 running club in Bedfordview. I just enjoy running,” said Mr Robins.

He has completed 30 City to City marathons. He trains four to five times a week and holds a permanent number for many of the big races.

“A permanent number is given to a runner for running the same marathon more than 10 times. The Around the World trophy is the nicest trophy I have ever received. It makes me proud,” said Mr Robins.

He said he keeps fit by running short distances.
