Family locked up after hijacking

The suspect ordered the owner to to give him the car keys. Several other men arrived in a BMW 1 Series, which was parked outside.

A family was locked in the back room after being hijacked, while arriving at their home in Devon Street, Kensington, on Friday 19.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashikane, said a man was waiting with his family in the car, while the remote controlled gate closed, when they were approached by a man with a firearm.

“The suspect ordered the owner to to give him the car keys. Several other men arrived in a BMW 1 Series, which was parked outside. They ordered the family into one of the back rooms, where they were locked in,” she said.

According to Const Mashikane, the suspects drove off in the family’s VW Golf 5 GTI.
