Edenvale skate park conditions not cool

Children should be able to come here and skate without any worries. The park is an eye-sore and attempts should be made to make it safer.

Edenvale resident Mr Dean Marais has expressed concerns regarding the poor state of the Edenvale skate park.

Mr Marais, who has been skating since he was 13 years old, is now 25 and is worried about the neglect and safety concerns he sees at the park.

He is also worried about the vagrants at the park, who pose a question of safety.

The NEWS recently published a story about a vagrant who was found dead at the park.

“The conditions are not good for us. I recall a time when one would look forward to coming here with friends. We would enjoy ourselves,” said Mr Marais.

He said back then, the skaters would get involved in the up-keep of the skate park.

He believes the skate park needs urgent attention.

“Council should take an interest in the park. There have been numerous attempts to get their attention, but nothing gets done,” said Mr Marais.

He said the skaters have gathered a petition in an attempt to save the skate park.

“Children should be able to come here and skate without any worries. The park is an eye-sore and attempts should be made to make it safer. A more secure fence, regular police patrols and cutting the grass. There is so much potential in this place. This is home to the next generation of skaters from Edenvale,” said Mr Marais.
