Residents urged to still pay municipal accounts

Delayed statement is not reason enough for customers not to pay their accounts or to pay them late.

While interruptions in postal services have been noted by the municipality, it maintains that not receiving a municipal account it no reason to not pay your account.

Industrial action has had negative implications on the delivery of printed municipal account statements.

“However, a delayed statement is not reason enough for customers not to pay their accounts or to pay them late. Residents who skip payment, or pay late, will incur arrears on their accounts,” said the municipal spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe.

“We are aware of the effects of the strike by post office workers; however, it was in view of circumstances like these, among others, that the municipality introduced numerous options which only serve to make accessibility of statements and payments easy.

“The non-receipt of a statement does not exempt any person from the liability to pay such an account,” he added.

Residents are encouraged to pay similar amounts to the previous month’s statements should they not have received their current statements.

Residents who are not receiving their statements by post, or summary statements by SMS, are encouraged to visit their Customer Care Centres to update their contact details.

Alternatively, residents can register on www.e-siyakhokha.co.za to be able to view their statements online.
