Foster Gang makes a comeback at heritage event

Grandson of Detective A.J Hoffman who investigated the Foster Gang shares his knowledge with Kensington residents.

The I love Kensington Association (Ilka) and the Kensington Heritage Trust held a Kensington heritage initiative event on Sunday, September 14, at the Kensington Bowling Club.

The initiative was an opportunity to learn about the history of the Kensington area from guest speakers.

The speakers, who provided an overview of the history and development of Kensington, were ex-Ilka chairperson Mr Brendon Burmester, current Ilka chairperson Ms Lornette Joseph, architect Mr David Sterling, Mr Andrew McDougall and historian, Mr Mike Alfred.

The Kensington heritage initiative event also marked the 100 year milestone of the Foster Gang Centenary.

Residents in attendance learnt about the history of the Foster Gang from Mr Andre Hoffmann, the grandson of detective A.J Hoffman who investigated the Foster Gang.

Mr Andre Hoffmann also read from Detective A.J Hoffman’s diary, which provided a first-hand account of the Foster Gang investigations and provided video footage of the event which took place in 1914.
