The incident took place at about 8pm, after members of the crime intelligent unit followed up on information received about the suspects who shot and wounded police officers in Pretoria.
The communications officer for the Yeoville SAPS, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the suspects were traced to a guest house in Yeoville.
When the suspects saw the police officers, they started shooting and the officers returned fire.
A shootout ensued and one of suspect was shot dead and the other was seriously wounded.
The wounded suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.
