Holy Rosary School strives for excellence

Founded in 1940, Holy Rosary School is an Independent Catholic day school for girls from grade R to 12.

The school has a nurturing ethos, striving for a balance between academics, religion, sports, culture and service.

Our vision is to strive for excellence in education within the context of a changing South African and global society. While Catholicism is our foundation, all faiths are welcomed and respected.

Holy Rosary School is affiliated to the Catholic Institute of Education (CIE), Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and our matrics write the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) papers.

Our cultural departments offer numerous exciting activities in music, drama and the arts.

The school regularly participates in competitions, concerts, Eisteddfods and productions to showcase our girls’ talents. While outstanding results are strived for in all sporting codes, we emphasise participation for health and fun purposes. The school has won Inter-Catholic Swimming and Athletics events for several consecutive years and features top national and provincial representatives in all disciplines.

A strong academic foundation is essential, and excellent results are achieved by our matrics year after year. A 100 percent matric pass rate, with at least 95 percent of our girls achieving a Bachelor Degree pass, ensures that our girls leave Holy Rosary School with a solid foundation, broad and relevant education and the best possible opportunities to strive for the goals they have set for themselves.

A particularly strong focus for the school is service above self – evident in all aspects of the school:

These pupils, originally from Ekurhuleni Primary School in Dukhatole (and now at various high schools in Germiston and Primrose), start in grade 8 and stay with us until the end of grade 12. The pupils are exposed to many new and exciting experiences, skills and people and are taken on a variety of outings during the school terms. This programme’s success has been a constant source of inspiration to Holy Rosary School and has made a significant difference in the lives of the Phumulela pupils.
