Suspects wanted for truck hijacking

The SAPS is currently investigating a truck hijacking involving suspects allegedly wearing police jerseys and reflector jackets.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a truck driver was travelling on the M2 to the Cleveland Road offramp on August 29 when he was stopped by a blue Toyota Corolla with five suspects. The suspects were allegedly wearing police jerseys and reflector jackets.

“One suspect approached the victim and pulled him out of the truck to put him in the getaway car. The man was searched and the suspects took R200 in cash and a cellular phone from him. The suspects tied his hands with shoe laces and drove off with him,” said Const Mashakane.

The man was dropped off in Buhle Park. The truck was later recovered in Southgate.

All goods, worth R100 000, were taken.

“The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made yet. We urge motorists to be vigilant at all times. If motorists are stopped at a place that is not safe, do not do so. Drive to a place where there are people or to the nearest police station,” said Const Mashakane.

Const Mashakane said there are several bogus police officers operating in the area and pleaded with the community to stay alert.
