Speeding motorists arrested

Two drivers, in their late 40's, were caught travelling at 178 km/h.

Motorists who willingly endanger themselves and other road users will face the full might of the law.

This comes after the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested seven drivers on the R21 freeway, between the Olifantsfontein and Bapsfontein off-ramps in Kempton Park, last Sunday.

According to the EMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, the seven drivers will appear in court, facing charges of reckless and negligent driving.

Two drivers, in their late 40’s, were caught travelling at 178 km/h. The first suspect was caught at 7am and the other at 7.30am. Both men claimed to be rushing to the airport.

A 32-year-old man was caught travelling at 176km/h. His excuse was that he was late for a funeral.

Another four motorists were arrested for travelling at speeds between 162km/h and 164km/h.

“As per the correct procedure, the drivers were all released on bail of R1 000, after being charged at the Kempton Park SAPS. The men are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Sen Supt Kgasago.
