Pageant winners to be ambassadors

The winners of the Mr and Miss Kensington Spring King and Queen pageant will be ambassadors of the I Love Kensington Association (Ilka).

The pageant was held on September 7 and was part of the Kensington Spring Fair.

It was hosted by Miss South Africa Youth (pre-Teen), Tanielle Da Silva (12).

One of the organisers of the event, Mrs Shelli Da Silva, said the proceeds from the pageant will go to the Impilo Children’s Heaven.

“Impilo was adopted by Tanielle as her charity for the year of her reign,” said Mrs Da Silva.

She said there were six professional judges, judging 70 contestants in different categories.

Contestants were judged on overall impression, personality, verbal skills, natural beauty, eye contact, confidence and poise.

She added that there were two competitions running on the day.

“The main event was for experience pageant entrants. The second event was rising titles for beginners. The winners will be ambassadors for Ilka, with the objective of appealing to the youth and encouraging them to become more involved in nurturing, caring for and bettering their community,” she said.

Winners in the main categories were Nerine Schutte in the 20+ age group, Charmaine Rasoeu who won the 16 to 19 age group and Brandon Breedt, who won the 16+ male category.

Alexia Breedt won the girls 12 to 15 category and Minet De Witt scooped the 7 to 11 girls category. The 3 to 6 girls category was won by Leandra Stander.

The boys 12 to 15 caategory was won by Brendon Niewoudt, while the 7 to 11 category was won by Syabonga Nyembe.

The rising star competition was won by Emma Ehlers. Dakota Da Silva won the Junior Girls category and Tebogo Mapitseng won the senior girls category.
