Fotheringham Park trash affects residents

A local resident is calling on authorities to walk through Fotheringham Park, see the problems and take action.

Mr Howard Gambold, from Malvern, said he has lived on his property, which overlooks the park, for about 40 years.

“It used to be well looked after. Park employees used to tend to it on a regular basis. It has now become an eyesore,” he said.

Mr Gambold added that he continually picks up trash which blows from the park onto his property and the surrounding area.

“The overflow ends up on the street. I would appreciate some senior members of the parks department to leave their offices and do a walkabout at the parks under their control and come to a swift decision,” said Mr Gambold.

There have been several complaints about Fotheringham Park over the past few years.

The EXPRESS previously published an article in which Mr Roger Sequeira, a Kensington resident, said he is tired of lip service.

He said officials of departments that are not performing should be held responsible or should vacate their positions. He has been pleading for action in Fotheringham Park for years but to no avail.

He said he and other residents living close to the park are forced to contend with criminals and vagrants using the park to their benefit as well as illegal dumping which includes dead animals.

The EXPRESS also published an article in which Mr John Banks, a resident in the area, urged authorities to attend to the illegal dumping in the park.

He said the dumping, against residents’ boundary walls, is posing a health hazard and is leading to an increase in the rat population in the area.

The EXPRESS forwarded an enquiry to Ms Jenny Moodley, from the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo. At the time of going to print, no comment had been received. @JoziReporter
