Women robbed on R24

The Bedfordview SAPS confirmed that a woman was robbed on the R24 on Saturday, August 23.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, “The woman was returning from OR Tambo International Airport after picking up her cousin and nephew.”

The woman noticed a white vehicle, with two occupants, flashing police badges at her. The suspects were driving next to her when they displayed the police badges.

When the woman stopped her vehicle, the two men approached her and asked for her driver’s license.

“As she reached for her license, one of the men removed the car keys from the ignition and demanded she give them her watch, jewellery and money. The second suspect searched her vehicle for other valuables and found her handbag. Money was stolen from the handbag,” Sgt Nhlabathi.

After taking her possessions, the suspects returned to their vehicle and fled the scene.

The woman’s driver’s license and vehicle keys were later recovered not far from where the incident took place.

“No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing. We would like to warn residents to be aware of who is following them at all times, especially on freeways. If you are unsure is someone is a legitimate officer, drive to a public place such as a garage, shopping mall or police station,” said Sgt Nhlabathi. @BedfordJourno
