Robbers target another pensioner (89)

“In the latest case, the robbers also poisoned the woman’s dogs,” said Lt Col Roberts.

An 89-year-old woman was robbed in her house on Monday morning last week.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said senior citizens are among the softest targets for criminals.

“In the latest case, the robbers also poisoned the woman’s dogs,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that secure premises can deter criminals.

“Ensure that doors and security gates are locked at all times. Do no investigate noises in your garden, rather call the police station or your security provider to assist,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He also urged residents to make sure that gardeners and domestic workers are informed to not let anyone into the property.

“The good-heartedness of our senior citizens is making them a target for criminals,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility, not just a job for law enforcement,” he said.
