Cubs, Scouts spread the warmth

1st Edenvale Cubs and 1st Edenvale Girl Scouts, together with their parents, collaborated on June 20 to make fleece blankets as their contribution to 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

They donated 40 blankets to Child Welfare South Africa Edenvale and 20 blankets to Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets).

The 40 children’s blankets were handed over to Edenvale social worker, Mr Gerald Mvundla on July 18, at a ceremony where the Cubs and Scouts had an opportunity to meet a few of the children from the Pinocchio Educare Centre which is run by the child welfare branch in Edenvale.

Mr Mvundla thanked 1st Edenvale and said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to 1st Edenvale for this generous donation of blankets. I also would like to thank all the companies and community members who donated various products and for sacrificing their time for the children on Mandela Day. Let us continue embracing Madiba’s values through empowering the communities and making every day a Mandela Day.”

Cubs and Girl Scouts joined Pets on July 20 at a fundraising event held in Kyalami to hand over the 20 pet blankets to Ms Nicole Badenhorst who said the difference these blankets has made to the pets that receive them was priceless.
