Five drug arrests in one day

One of the arrests made was of a minor found in possession of drugs

The Edenvale SAPS Crime Prevention Unit made five drug-related arrests in Edenvale on Monday.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said one of the arrests made was of a minor found in possession of drugs.

“Those arrested were found with dagga and khat,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that it concerned police officers that there seemed to be a large market for drugs in Edenvale.

“It is for this reason that Edenvale needs campaigns such as Tiles4Change. Through initiatives such as this, we tackle the problem at a grassroots level, teaching children from a young age that drugs can be destructive and dangerous,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that children who take projects such as Tiles4Change to heart are more likely to grow up without touching illegal substances.

“Tiles4Change will assist in all facets of substance abuse from intervention to rehabilitation. One without the other is useless and will need to work hand-in-hand,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He urged parents who suspect that their children may be using illegal substances to contact the SAPS immediately.

“We want to assist the youth of Edenvale. Without children our town has no future,” he said.
