Arrests in Jeppe SAPS precinct

Several arrests were made by the Jeppe SAPS in the precinct recently.

Included in the arrests were two suspects who were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle on August 4.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers received information from residents about two people attempting to steal a car.

“The officers went to the address provided and found two people and a car.

“They approached and searched the suspects. They also tested the vehicle,” said Const Mashakane.

It was established that the vehicle was reported hijacked in the Brixton precinct.

“The officers also checked Closed Circuit Television video footage to establish if the suspects were trying to steal another vehicle in the area and they were,” said Const Mashakane.

The two suspects, aged 29 and 30, were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and the attempted theft of a vehicle.

In a separate incident that took place the following day, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of implements used to break into vehicles.

Const Mashakane said police officers were at the corner of Joe Slovo Drive and End Street when they saw two men behaving suspiciously.

The police officers searched the men and found sparkplugs in their possession.

The men, aged 26 and 33, were arrested and detained at the Jeppe SAPS.

On August 6 a man was arrested for a burglary and theft.

Const Mashakane said a man living in North Avenue, in Bez Valley, alleged he went to lock a gate and realised the lock was broken.

“He went into the yard to investigate and saw one suspect hiding next to a book rack. He apprehended him and screamed for help. Police officers were called and the suspect was arrested,” said Const Mashakane.

The man was found in possession of copper pipes stolen from the property.
