Car thieves arrested

Two men were arrested while trying to steal a car at a supermarket in Malvern.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said security guards saw two men tampering with a car on August 6.

“They alerted the police. The two suspects tried to run away but the police and security guards overpowered them. They were arrested,” said Const Mashakane.

The men were searched and tools used to break into vehicles were found in their possession.

The men, aged 42 and 32, were arrested and detained at the Cleveland SAPS.

“When they were questioned they said they were from Diepkloof in Soweto. They said they are not the only ones operating in the area. There is a large group of suspects operating in the area,” said Const Mashakane.

She urged the community to be alert at all times.
