Wards to be contested in by-elections today

Voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm.

Municipal ward by-elections will take place across all nine provinces on Wednesday, August 13.

According to the IEC, a total of 25 wards will be contested by 62 candidates, representing 12 political parties and four independent candidates. Three by-elections are uncontested.

Three by-elections will take place in Gauteng:

Voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm. A total of 214 861 voters are registered in the 124 voting districts where the by-elections will be taking place.

Voters who need more information on the by-elections can contact their local municipal electoral officer during office hours, or visit the IEC website at www.elections.org.za

The two voting stations in Greenstone and Modderfontein are the Modderfontein Sports Club and in a tent at Greenstone Hill.

Registered voters can also SMS their ID number to 32810 to check if their registration details are correct.
