Municipal ward by-elections will take place across all nine provinces on Wednesday, August 13.
According to the IEC, a total of 25 wards will be contested by 62 candidates, representing 12 political parties and four independent candidates. Three by-elections are uncontested.
Three by-elections will take place in Gauteng:
- Ward 32 in the City of Johannesburg will be contested by Mr Tebogo Sithathu of the ANC, Mr Bongani Nkomo of the DA and Ms Thobekile Xaba of the IFP. The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
- Ward 90 in the City of Johannesburg will be contested by Ms Joy Myrna Coplan of the ANC, and Mr Anthony William of the DA. The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the National Assembly.
- Ward 52 in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality will be contested by Mr Jan Carl Kruger, an independent candidate, Ms Rensche Leondri Bell of the ANC, Mr Frans Johannes Smith of the DA and Mr Given Mmutle Moeketsi of the IFP. The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor being elected to represent the party in the Provincial Legislature.
Voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm. A total of 214 861 voters are registered in the 124 voting districts where the by-elections will be taking place.

The two voting stations in Greenstone and Modderfontein are the Modderfontein Sports Club and in a tent at Greenstone Hill.
Registered voters can also SMS their ID number to 32810 to check if their registration details are correct.
