Vehicle owners urged to be vigilant

Residents have been urged to be aware of where they park their vehicles.

People have also been urged to double check if their vehicles are locked.

Captain Hendrik Kotze, the head of crime intelligence at the Cleveland SAPS, said theft of motor vehicles in suburbs such as Malvern is a problem. ā€œPeople park and leave their vehicles for a few minutes and criminals steal them. Vehicles that are most targeted are Volkswagens, Toyotas and bakkies. Please make sure your vehicles are parked in secure areas and are locked. Do not park in dark and secluded areas,ā€ he said.

He also urged people to stop leaving valuables on seats and to double checkĀ if their vehicles are locked.

Jamming devices are still being used by criminals to gain access to vehicles.
