Bogus official arrested for extortion
The complainant reported the matter to the police and a trap was set.
A man was arrested for posing as an official from the Department of Health.
The arrests took place at the corner of Dunbar and Bezuidenhout streets on Wednesday, July 30.
According to Const Malatji, spokesperson of the Yeoville SAPS, the suspect went to the complainant’s place and posed as an official from the Department of Health.
He accused the complainant of not being registered as a physiotherapist and demanded a bribe of R10, 000.
The complainant reported the matter to the police and a trap was set. Constable Malatji said, the suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of extortion and robbery.
