Day Care Centre for Seniors opened

“Occupational therapy is not about doing things for residents, but fostering their independence for as long as possible. "

Four women committed to the care of older people, saw life given to their vision on June 4 when the Rand Aid Association opened its Day Care Centre for Seniors.

Caring for an elderly person who is physically or mentally frail places a huge burden on loved ones.

The new, purpose-built day care centre, which is attached to the Ron Smith Care Centre and is situated on the grounds of Elphin Lodge, allows caregivers to involve a loved one in meaningful activities within a supportive environment.

Mr John Robinson, the chairman of the Rand Aid Association board, praised the enthusiasm with which Rand Aid’s team seeks new ways to make a difference to the people in its care.

“They provide comprehensive, innovative services that are consistently of a high quality.”

He said people should view their time at the day care centre as the start of a new chapter, with the promise of new friendships and the revival of old hobbies under the guidance of a caring occupational therapy team.

“Occupational therapy is not about doing things for residents, but fostering their independence for as long as possible. In opening this day care centre, we are bringing new meaning and joy to the lives of our residents while extending our services to members of the community,” said Mr Robinson.
