Ilka cleans streets for Mandela Day

Ilka hosts clean ups on a monthly basis.

I Love Kensington Association (Ilka) members cleaned streets in Kensington in commemoration of Mandela Day.

The chairperson of Ilka, Mrs Lornette Joseph, said the organisation takes pride in doing community and charity work.

“We do this work outside of Mandela Day. This day seems to be a vehicle where everyone jumps on board and does something,” she said.

Ilka hosts clean ups on a monthly basis.

“We feel it is important to take pride in one’s suburb. While it is council’s job, and we do pay rates and taxes, there must be some public pride involved. Our Pavement Appeal initiative is something we feel strongly about as it is the opportunity for everyone to do their bit for our suburb to remain beautiful,” said Mrs Joseph.

Ilka will be hosting another event to commemorate Madiba’s legacy.

“Ilka will be hosing an event at Bethany House in Bertrams, on August 2, to allow more residents the opportunity to participate,” said Mrs Joseph.
