Saheti takes part in launch of Mandela Day activities

Saheti School joined the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) and dignitaries during the launch of the GDE's Mandela Day initiative recently.

Saheti School attended the event held at the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Houghton after the department had requested donations of books for underprivileged schools to form part of Mandela Day activities.

Several dignitaries were in attendance, including Sello Hatang, chief executive officer of the Nelson Mandela Foundation; struggle stalwarts, Advocate George Bizos and Ahmed Kathrada; Ndileka and Luvuyo Mandela representing Madiba’s family; Yusuf Abramjee, head of Lead SA; Advocate Lesley Sedibe, chief executive officer of Proudly South African and Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi.

All spoke about the need to promote reading and make a difference in the lives of young people through education.

Mr Abramjee said after Nelson Mandela’s death, Lead SA pledged to make this the biggest Mandela Day ever.
