Drunk taxi driver in unroadworthy vehicle caught on Modderfontein Road

The man was driving recklessly and was also driving in the oncoming traffic's lane.

The Sebenza SAPS arrested a man on Wednesday, July 16, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sebenza SAPS officers were driving on Modderfontein Road when they noticed a taxi driver driving carelessly.

According to the Sebenza SAPS spokesperson, Constable Sharon Mahamba, the man was driving recklessly and was also driving in the oncoming traffic’s lane.

The Sebenza SAPS chased the driver.

“When we reached him we discovered that the driver was possibly under the influence of alcohol. He could not stand up straight.” said Const Mahamba.Apart from the reckless driving, the vehicle’s licence disk was a photocopy. Officers also found that the photocopied licence disk had expired in May.

“The taxi was not roadworthy. It was in such a poor condition that some of its parts were falling off,” she said.

The taxi’s usual route is from Tembisa to Edenvale and back to Tembisa. The driver was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and for driving a vehicle that was not roadworthy.

He appeared at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court today.
